Hello,
Here is a technical tip from Mr. Ron Haupt, the former ASME B31 chairman teaching a (More Information) seminar this month on Pipe Design and Stress Analysis.
_________________________________________________________
Question : For a reduced outlet branch connection (B31.3), stress
at the branch is calculated using the corroded section modulus.
True or False? Answer below.
_________________________________________________________
Can you answer the above question? Don\'t look at the answer. You will learn a lot more than an answer to this simple question at the seminar (last 6 spots left, fee discounted 20% + comes with a free DVD on "Piping Codes").
More Info (More Information)
_________________________________________________________
Answer: Not True. Stress at the branch should be
calculated using an effective section modulus not
the corroded section modulus.
See ASME B31.3 Para. 319.4.4 for details.
